Institutional Editorial Advisory Solutions
Clarifying Editorial Assets for Complex Healthcare Institutions
Health systems, academic medical centers, and specialty care institutions communicate constantly through campaigns, publications, patient-facing materials, donor communications, leadership messages, service-line stories, reports, and other written assets. But clarity and institutional trust depend on something more than activity. They depend on whether the materials an institution publishes align with its identity, priorities, brand standards, operational reality, and review environment.
When that alignment is weak, editorial assets can become inconsistent, unclear, or disconnected from the institution’s larger communications direction. Even well-executed materials can fail to produce the coherence and trust the institution needs when the purpose, audience, source material, brand considerations, and institutional context have not been clarified before development begins.
At the institutional level, editorial misalignment can become a reputational and operational problem: inconsistent leadership language, disconnected publication assets, repeated revision cycles, stakeholder doubt, and materials that do not fully support the institution’s priorities across patients, families, clinicians, employees, donors, boards, and community audiences.
That misalignment can show up quickly in multi-stakeholder review environments, where communications must stay coherent across service lines, leadership, patient experience, advancement, brand, clinical, and public-facing teams.
Institutional Editorial Advisory Solutions helps identify and address that misalignment before it compounds.
I work with health systems, academic medical centers, and specialty care institutions, including concierge and membership medicine programs, to clarify and strengthen the editorial assets that carry institutional identity, service-line priorities, leadership perspective, patient understanding, brand awareness, and public trust.
Why Institutional Editorial Advisory Matters
Healthcare editorial assets often carry more than information. They may need to support patient understanding, service-line visibility, donor confidence, leadership communication, community trust, brand coherence, and institutional credibility at the same time.
Institutional editorial advisory helps clarify how a specific written asset should be developed before drafting begins, so the work can support existing communications direction, review expectations, and organizational priorities.
This work does not replace your institution’s narrative architecture or corporate communications strategy. It supports them through defined editorial assets shaped with senior judgment, source awareness, audience understanding, and brand sensitivity.
A Collaborative Editorial Advisory Process
Each engagement is shaped around the asset your institution needs to develop and the context it needs to serve.
Depending on the project, the work may include editorial planning, source review, interview development, research synthesis, writing, revision, and refinement for review.
The process is collaborative, bounded, and designed to support your existing communications leadership, brand standards, review environment, and institutional priorities.
Recent Editorial Advisory Work
NorthBay Health | Wellspring, Summer 2026
For the Summer 2026 issue of NorthBay Health’s Wellspring magazine, I developed the issue’s editorial strategy and wrote its feature story content, working from that editorial advisory blueprint designed to connect NorthBay Health’s expansion, community access, philanthropy, clinical expertise, and patient-centered care within a coherent institutional story.
The finished publication demonstrates how the this advisory process operates across an entire editorial asset: individual stories address distinct subjects and audiences while collectively reinforcing the institution’s larger narrative and communications strategy.

Client Recommendation
"Dahna brought senior strategic and editorial judgment to our work at NorthBay Health. She developed an editorial strategy blueprint that helped establish the direction for the publication, then carried that thinking through the reporting and development of the stories. Her sourcing was disciplined, her writing was clear and engaging, and each story supported what we needed the publication to communicate.”

Who This Work Serves
This work is designed for health systems, academic medical centers, specialty care institutions, concierge and membership medicine programs, and healthcare organizations with communications leadership, brand standards, review processes, and institutional priorities already in place.
It is especially useful when teams are developing publications, newsletters, service-line materials, patient or community-facing assets, donor communications, campaign-support materials, case narratives, issue briefs, or other written materials that need to carry complexity with clarity.
I work independently and within defined scope, bringing senior editorial judgment, brand awareness, source understanding, audience sensitivity, and review awareness to the specific assets your institution needs to develop.
Engagement Options
Every engagement is customized to the institution, asset, audience, source material, review process, and intended use. Each option is designed to produce a defined editorial asset or asset series.
Healthcare Publication Development
Custom development for newsletters, magazines, or publication series.
Service-Line Editorial Assets
Defined assets explaining programs, specialties, services, or care models.
Patient and Community-Facing Editorial Assets
Written assets supporting patient understanding of institutional offering and community trust.
Donor and Advancement Editorial Assets
Written assets supporting philanthropy, stewardship, and institutional giving.
I also offer custom engagements for healthcare institutions that bring a specific editorial need, challenge, or opportunity and want to determine what kind of written asset can address it.
My Approach
I draw on over 20 years of experience as an award-winning journalist and narrative and editorial advisor. I hold a master’s degree in corporate communications from Georgetown University and am completing a doctorate in organizational change and leadership at the University of Southern California.
My work is grounded in senior editorial judgment, brand awareness, audience understanding, source synthesis, interview development, structure, writing, and refinement. Those capabilities help healthcare institutions develop written assets that are clear, credible, useful, and aligned with existing communications direction.
Each engagement is bounded to the specific editorial asset, asset series, publication, report, or written material your organization needs to develop. This is distinct from generic healthcare writing, volume content production, embedded communications support, or open-ended consulting.
